Position Overview
#TeamMKUH is hiring a Registered Nurse with a high level of experience in Haematology Services. We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Haemoglobinopathy Nurse Specialist to join our red cell nurse team.
Responsibilities include expert care and support for adult and TYA patients with haemoglobinopathies and their families. The role requires accepting patient referrals, managing a defined caseload as the key worker, ensuring continuity and coordination of care, providing holistic advice, education, and support, and working collaboratively across hospital departments and community services to facilitate seamless, patient‑centred pathways.
The post holder will liaise closely with local services and the regional network, seeking guidance from Lead Nurses, and work toward achieving agreed Key Performance Indicators that reflect both local and network priorities. Training to support patients through a red cell exchange will also be provided.
Key Responsibilities
* Accept patient referrals based on agreed criteria and manage a defined caseload as the key worker.
* Provide expert, holistic care, education and support to patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
* Work collaboratively across hospital departments and community services to facilitate seamless patient paths.
* Maintain continuity of care and coordinate specialist services within the multidisciplinary team.
* Support the development of national standards for haemoglobin disorders and lead nurse‑led initiatives.
* Assist in the evaluation of service and patient care, monitoring patient experience and applying research findings to improve practice.
Qualifications and Knowledge (Essential)
* Registered General Nurse (RGN) Adult qualification.
* Diploma/degree or advanced level training.
* Mentorship experience.
Qualifications and Knowledge (Desirable)
* Haematology or related modules at degree level.
* Advanced communication skills.
Experience (Essential)
* Post‑registration experience in haematology.
* Experience caring for patients with haematology conditions.
* Ability to balance and prioritise care and staffing needs.
Experience (Desirable)
* Experience in educating and training staff.

* IT skills – use of email and clinical databases.
