Programme Manager - Software and hardware engineering environment
Location : Dorset (office-based with travel to Northern Ireland)
Salary to c£80k negotiable base plus 12% MIP and benefits
Role Summary :-
Our client is looking for a Programme Manager who will be responsible for delivering one of their most prestigious projects to an important external customer based in Northern Ireland. Through their leadership and attention to detail the selected candidate will ensure the success of the project.
The project is entering a phase of multiple hardware and software customer acceptance and system go-live events and this will require frequent travel to Northern Ireland to attend meetings, workshops and the monthly customer Project Board briefing to senior customer staff including the CFO and CEO.
The selected candidate will be the main point of contact for the project with the responsibility to deliver the project on cost and schedule. They will ensure adherence to commercial scope and that costs are tracked against budget and that internal and external milestones are tracked against the committed schedule. They will manage the full project scope.
Experience :-
The Programme Manager will need experience of the whole project life-cycle from bidding to warranty support. Applicants must have recent experience of being the Lead Programme Manager of large external client projects involving software, hardware devices, systems integration, and all the associated logistics. Another important aspect is that you must have been involved with customer acceptance events.
Responsibilities :-
* Ensure project schedule and budget are tracked and remain on target. Identify any deviation and take corrective action
* Provide regular financial and status reporting
* Prepare and maintain a PnL including Cash Flow
* Manage team of Project Managers within the programme
* Oversee the delivery of the project in conjunction with the project Technical Lead
* Provide the necessary support for tenders, commercial events, customer presentations
* Contribute to the development of a hardware and software product and delivery strategy
* Provide primary main point of contact and escalation for all project matters
* Manage customer expectations and ensure that they are met or exceeded
* Provide leadership in the resolution of issues and challenges
* Ensure the project team understand project goals
* Prepare and maintain a Programme Plan
* Prepare written reports as required
* Maintain a project risks and issues register. Identify any deviation and take corrective action
* Ensure resources are in place to deliver projects
* Ensure each team member understands their role, the activities assigned to them, the deliverables expected from them and the resources and timescales available to them
* Liaise with other departments necessary for delivery of the project, including Hardware and Software Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Commercial, Field Services, Technical Support, and Product Development
* Oversee the negotiation of contract variations with the customer
* Ensure timely and professional responses to the customer
* Ensure all customer commitments are met
* Ensure customer invoicing is completed in line with project schedules
Core skills :-
* Academic qualification probably to degree level accompanied by demonstrable experience of successful project delivery over your career
* Ability to manage complex projects
* Strong interpersonal skills with excellent oral communication and time management and be used to working to deadlines
* Strong commercial skills
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft and Google business software environments (spreadsheets, email, word processing)
* Understanding of electronics and computer systems
* Flexible with working hours to accommodate the needs of projects
