As a Rotational midwife, you will be joining a team of well-established professional and compassionate midwives providing safe holistic, women-centred care. You will have the opportunity to make a real difference in our patients and their families by providing clinical midwifery care to women within the Maternity Services.
You must have an NMC registration or in the process of obtaining one.
You will be required to work cross site at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon delivering care to city and rural communities covering a diverse cultural and economic population. We provide a specialist midwifery service to vulnerable women at the Peterborough Prison. We support babies that need more specialised care within our Transitional Care Unit, enabling mothers to stay with their baby throughout supported care, and ensuring Continuity of Care.

Main duties of the job
You will provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women and their families in line with the NMC Code and supported by local policies and guidelines, and the recommendations of the Better Births report.
You will be managing the clinical area during their rostered duty time.
You will demonstrate excellent clinical skills while providing leadership to junior colleagues and students within their area of work.
You will play an active part in the development of the midwifery services within the Maternity Unit.

Job responsibilities
As part of your role as a rotational midwife, your responsibilities will be:
* To assess, implement and evaluate programmes of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women in line with current evidence, Unit policies and guidelines and NMC Midwives Rules and Code of Practice.
* To develop an environment that supports the value of midwifery care.
* To liaise and communicate with other members of the midwifery and multi-disciplinary team in the planning and delivery of care.
* To act as an advocate for the women and babies receiving care.
* To be involved in the development of evidence-based practice in the Maternity Service and to encourage reflective practice providing a supportive framework to ensure that this takes place.
* To initiate and support innovative change within the Midwifery Service in line with current clinical and academic evidence, national standards and relevant reports.
* To maintain personal clinical expertise through clinical practice and within NMC requirements under PREP rules.
* To be aware and have an understanding of the guidelines relating to Safeguarding issues.
* To liaise with colleagues, GPs and other professionals where necessary in order to provide a seamless service for women receiving care across both health and other agency boundaries.
* To promote health education for the woman and her family at all times.
* To provide expert advice and support for students, healthcare assistants, nursery nurses, clerical staff and midwifery colleagues.
