Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Mental Health Specialist Setting Northampton Full Time | September 2026 Start Via Tradewind Recruitment Tradewind Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a highly respected specialist provision in Northampton, seeking an experienced and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their dedicated team from September 2026 . This unique setting supports children and young people who have experienced significant disruption to their education due to mental health challenges, anxiety-based school avoidance, emotional wellbeing needs, or extended periods of hospitalisation . The provision offers a nurturing and therapeutic approach, helping students successfully re-engage with education while supporting their emotional and personal development. As a HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting both learning and wellbeing across the provision. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals to deliver targeted interventions, support small group learning and occasionally lead lessons in the absence of teaching staff. Due to the nature of the provision, staff may be required to work across more than one site. Therefore, applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle . Key Responsibilities: Deliver learning activities and interventions to individuals and small groups Support students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs Assist students in rebuilding confidence and engagement with education Lead learning sessions and cover lessons where appropriate Work collaboratively with teaching staff, families and external agencies Monitor student progress and contribute to planning and assessment Promote positive wellbeing, resilience and emotional regulation Support students returning to education following hospital stays or prolonged absences The Ideal Candidate Will Have: HLTA qualification or equivalent experience Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or mental health needs Excellent communication and relationship-building skills A calm, patient and empathetic approach Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable young people while working within a supportive and specialist educational environment.
