University Counsellor
0.4 FTE / 14 hours per week, fixed term for 6 months
Grade 6, £11,842.00 - £14,409.60 (pro-rata of £29,605.00 - £36,024.00)

This is an exciting opportunity for a Counsellor to join our small team providing support to students. Working as part of the Student Wellbeing and Support team, you will be part of a network across the University, helping students to thrive in their studies.

What we need from you:
• Knowledge of risk and risk management (safeguarding, safety, and wellbeing), and of case management and engagement with key safeguarding agencies.
• Tact and discretion, with adherence to confidentiality.
• Data skills (recording, analysing, interpreting, and reporting).
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
• Organised and resourceful.
What you’d be doing:
• Triaging, signposting and agreeing plans with students.
• Counselling students, usually for five weeks at a time to support them in their studies. Short term counselling is also offered.
• Running group sessions to support lower-level issues such as dissertation stress.
• Working closely with colleagues across the Student Success department to improve the service and positively impact the student experience.
• Undertaking personal development necessary to ensure effective performance in the role.
• Any other duties appropriate to the role as required by the Line Manager or Management Team (within the job holder’s level of skill and ability).

Where you’ll work:
In this role, you’ll be based in the Student Wellbeing and Support (SWS) team, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth.
To be successful in this role, you will normally work from campus, though in certain circumstances you may be able to work from home.
An appropriate level DBS check will be required for this role.
