We are seeking a motivated and experienced Nurse to join our dynamic Surgical/Elective team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled nurse to contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care within a fast-paced and evolving environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting elective surgical pathways, ensuring safe and effective care from pre-operative assessment through to discharge. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care, lead on clinical decision-making, and support junior staff in their development.
This role requires excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills, as well as a strong clinical background in surgical nursing. You will be expected to demonstrate initiative, uphold professional standards, and contribute to service improvement.

Main duties of the job
1. Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients undergoing elective surgical procedures.
2. Act as a clinical leader within the team, supporting junior staff and promoting best practice.
3. Coordinate patient care across the surgical pathway, including pre-operative assessment, intra-operative support, and post-operative recovery.
4. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective discharge planning.
5. Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and service development projects.
6. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with Trust policies and NMC standards.
7. Support the induction, training, and supervision of new and junior staff.
8. Respond to clinical emergencies and escalate concerns appropriately.
9. Promote a culture of safety, compassion, and continuous learning within the team.

Essential criteria
10. NMC registered Nurse- Child branch
11. Post Registration Qualification ENB 998 or prep for mentorship
Desirable criteria
12. PILS/APLS Mentorship

Essential criteria
13. Able to make effective decisions autonomously and in partnership with children, families and the multidisciplinary team.
14. Highly effective communication skills
15. Ability to manage own workload.

Desirable criteria
17. Able to function at experienced nurse level.
Experience
Essential criteria
18. Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in an acute surgical or elective care setting
19. Familiarity with pre-operative and post-operative care pathways
20. Experience of managing a ward/team for defined periods of time
21. Experience of working within an acute and/or community paediatric team.
22. Competence in clinical decision-making and escalation processes
Desirable criteria
23. Experience in the development of a new service.
24. Experience of facilitating care of children between different care settings
