About the role
The main role of the post holder will be to work closely with existing electronic and mechanical technicians to provide technical support for undergraduate lab activities. The post holder will be the primary support for wet lab and bioscience-related practical. The post holder will also be required to develop other skills (such as basic electronic and mechanical). Specific training will be provided in such cases. The technician is also responsible for monitoring and maintaining a safe working environment within the teaching laboratories.
Support will also be provided for the department’s wider operations as required. This could involve work in other laboratories and teaching spaces, including large-scale projects that have specific deadlines. This may occasionally involve being flexible with working hours to achieve these deadlines during the term times.
This will be a busy role specially during term time, in a fast-paced environment, and the post holder will be expected to be adaptable, proactive and quickly assimilate information.
The post holder will be expected to engage in suitable training to increase their knowledge and skills, and in conjunction with this, they will have opportunities to develop their role within the department in accordance with their aptitude and abilities.
The post holder is expected to take a proactive approach to their work, making suggestions for improvements in working methods and implementing them under the guidance of their line manager, as well as to establish their own support networks across UCL.

About you
The successful applicant will possess a degree in Biomedical Engineering or Biomedical Science, Biotechnology and Biological Science. They will need to have experience working in a Wet Lab environment, competence in accurate and reproducible ample quantity solution preparation using Wet Lab equipment. The applicant will need to demonstrate ability to learn to use new equipment and technical software, and then effectively teach it to students. Wet Lab skills such Cell Culture, Cell Staining, Fluorescent Microscopy, and experience in maintaining Wet lab equipment ( pipette, Ph meter and spectrometer) or with programming and manufacturing experience and familiarity with tools such as Matlab, Arduino, Python, 3D printer and laser cutter will be highly advantageous.
Moreover, the successful candidate will exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team. They will possess strong written and oral communication abilities, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving. Impeccable organisational skills, coupled with an unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory practice, will be essential attributes.
