Summary
You will serve as a Supervisory Service Nuclear Internal Shop Manager in the Service Shop (Code 990) Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901) Production Resources Department (Code 900) of Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Duties
* Review, approve and direct work operations in the execution of a project within an assigned zone of work.
* Determine total resource requirements and allocation based on schedules and work sequences.
* Take necessary actions to achieve cost and schedule commitments.
* Ensure safe work practices are followed.
* Initiate or attend meetings concerning work status.
* Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work.
Conditions of Employment
* Must be a U.S. Citizen.
* Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
* Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
* New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
* Current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
* Appointment of retired military members within 180 days following retirement is subject to 5 U.S.C. § 3326.
* Male applicants born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service.
* Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
* Must wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously during the work shift.
* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present; must participate in medical surveillance programs.
* May require travel to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites; must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
* Must review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct as required for supervisors.
Qualifications
* At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑11 grade level or pay band, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
* Experience applying a comprehensive range of principles, concepts, and practices concerning shipyard work operations, control system requirements, trade and shop practices, and personnel development in service shops.
* Experience determining and resolving operational and maintenance problems with shipyard and ship's personnel.
* Experience applying extensive administrative knowledge of nuclear production trade work and technical methods, procedures, materials and processes associated with the repair and overhaul of complex Navy vessels.
* Experience interpreting OSHA, NAVSEA, Federal/State environmental regulations and local instructions.
* Experience investigating and analyzing practices and problems to initiate effective improvements and solutions.
