Elective Home Education Coordinator

The Elective Home Education Coordinator will work to support children, families and schools in line with DfE guidance. The post provides a link coordinator for schools to help them support families who are considering elective home education.
Achieving for Children continually reviews its structure and business practices in order to provide the best possible services for children, young people and their families, in the most effective and efficient way. As a result, the key tasks in any job profile may be varied.
The post holder will be responsible for the coordination of Elective Home Education across Windsor & Maidenhead. The post holder will be the main contact for families who are electively home educating their child/ren.
The post holder will:
1. Ensure that all referrals are dealt with efficiently and effectively and the safety and welfare of the child is considered at all times
2. ensure that parents/carers are aware of their rights and responsibilities as home educators
3. be the main point of contact for Gypsy Roma and Traveller families, ensuring that they are given appropriate information
4. ensure practice and procedures are up to date with national developments and revise procedures in line with DFE guidance
5. consult and advise schools with guidance around elective home education
6. manage individual case files, ensuring all relevant information is up to date

About the role
To be an Elective Home Education Coordinator, you will be passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people as well as being able to:
8. To offer guidance to all known home-educating families in RBWM about their rights and obligations in relation to EHE
9. To arrange and attend consultations with schools and families in relation who may be considering EHE
10. To maintain accurate records and update the database
11. To build positive relationships with EHE and GRT families in RBWM
12. To work collaboratively with partners and colleagues to ensure that CYP registered as EHE are in receipt of an education and that all Year 11 CYP have a recorded onward destination.
13. To analyse RBWM Elective Home Education data to identify complex themes and trends and provide written reports where required
14. To maintain regular communication with link schools, following up individual cases, by means of correspondence, home visits and other appropriate measures
15. To be proactive in identifying and advertising engagement activities for children and families who are EHE. Ensure that useful information is shared, and families are kept informed of key dates with regard to secondary transfer dates, exam dates and where test centres may be available to parents.

About you
We are looking for a successful candidate with the qualities below:
17. Education and qualifications equivalent to 3 ‘A’ Levels or above. Relevant degree/further post graduate qualifications or equivalent would be desirable.
18. Knowledge of child development, the influence of the home and school environment which affects the child’s ability to benefit from education
19. Sound knowledge of elective home education
20. Experience of working with families and children from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds
21. Experience of working with Gypsy Roma and Traveller communities
22. Knowledge of the legislation relating to : European Convention on Human Rights, Article 2 of Protocol 1 and Education Act 1996, Section 7.
23. Knowledge of Elective Home Education; guidance for local authorities
24. Safeguarding knowledge and familiarity with multi-agency thresholds
25. Knowledge of Disability and Special Education Needs
26. Ability to assist schools and families in relation to EHE procedures
27. Experience of being self-motivated, using initiative, working and achieving tight deadlines
28. Experience of working with a high volume of complex and sensitive issues within a varied workload and to prioritise tasks accordingly
29. Ability to manage change and show resilience
30. Effective listening and communication skills, including written communication and use of IT
31. Experience of promoting and applying anti-discriminatory practice and equality and diversity in all areas of service delivery and team relations
32. Energetic, resilient, enthusiastic, team player
33. Driving licence
Personal attributes - Desirable
34. Experience of communicating and working with a wide range of people including those from statutory and voluntary agencies and senior managers
35. Experience of establishing and maintaining close relationships between home, school in order to negotiate and facilitate on behalf of clients
36. Experience of effective recording, monitoring and evaluation using a wide range of tools and Information Systems
