Where Mental Health Meets Acute Care — Lead the Difference.
Join Us as a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist – Liaison Psychiatry Worthing General Hospital
Every day in our acute hospitals, people arrive in moments of vulnerability, uncertainty, or crisis. Within that confusion, our team's purpose is to meet those people with expertise, compassion, and hope when they need it most. Our team is Liaison Psychiatry, and now—we’re looking for our next Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to help lead it.
Why This Role Matters
In Liaison Psychiatry, no two days are the same—and that’s what makes it extraordinary. You will stand where physical and mental health meet, where a single conversation can shape a patient’s journey, and where your clinical expertise truly changes lives. As a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will play a leading role in delivering expert mental health care to patients presenting with a wide range of psychiatric, psychological, and behavioural needs across the Emergency Department and the inpatient general wards. This is a nursing leadership post with purpose and ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment.
* Deliver specialist mental health assessments, formulation and brief interventions, that bring clarity in moments of crisis
* Guide acute hospital colleagues with confidence and clinical authority
* Support staff, patients, and families through some of their most challenging moments
* Influence how mental health care is understood, valued, and delivered across the hospital, which includes teaching and education to our acute colleagues.
* Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
* Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to nursing and MDT colleagues
* Build strong relationships across acute care, community teams, and wider system partners
You Will Be
* A registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with significant post‑registration experience at Band 6 or above
* Skilled in assessing and managing complex mental health presentations in acute settings
* Confident working autonomously while also being an effective MDT collaborator
* Passionate about improving patient experience and outcomes
* Able to lead, inspire, and support others within the team
* Committed to clinical excellence, service development, and professional growth
As our Coastal Urgent Care Pathway moves towards CORE 24 standards, the post-holder will work flexible hours to support delivery of 24/7 services. You will need to be able to work on a shift pattern which includes some weekends.
What We Offer
* A supportive, forward‑thinking team committed to staff wellbeing
* Opportunities for continuing professional development, including leadership pathways
* Regular supervision and a structured appraisal programme
* Access to Trust wellbeing resources and flexible working where appropriate
* The chance to shape a growing Liaison service
