We are looking for a Radiation Protection and Diagnostic Radiology HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist to join our friendly team of physicists and technologists.
You will join the team in providing radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics services to Radiology, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, PET-CT, and Radiopharmacy in one of the largest NHS organisations in England, including Colchester Hospital, Ipswich Hospital, and multiple community sites.
You will work across both hospitals with occasional visits to our community sites. You are expected to participate in all aspects of the scientific support we provide to the Trust and our external customers in ionising and non-ionising radiation areas, including supporting the Radioactive Waste Advisers on compliance with relevant legislation.
You will take the lead in some service delivery areas, working to enhance and develop existing procedures and providing expert scientific advice to stakeholders. Collaboration with other RPAs, MPEs, and healthcare professionals is essential to deliver high-quality radiation protection services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Liaise with scientific and technical staff within Radiation Safety and Imaging Physics to ensure high-quality services.
2. Advise the Trust on regulatory compliance related to radiation safety, including staff training requirements.
3. Provide scientific and technical expertise to medical staff and healthcare professionals regarding radiation safety and physics of ionising and non-ionising radiation.
4. Fulfil the role of Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in diagnostic radiology as per the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 and/or the role of Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) as per the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017.
You should be a Certified Medical Physics Expert in Diagnostic Radiology or a Certified Radiation Protection Adviser. If you are working towards one of these certifications and have significant post-registration experience in Radiation Protection and Diagnostic Radiology, we will consider a Band 7 developmental role while supporting your qualification achievement.
