Overview of the role
The Head of Desk (Sales) will lead and manage a team of Business Development Executives focused on selling payments, FX and cross‑border services to corporates and financial institutions. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in sales management, a deep understanding of the FX and payments market, and the ability to drive team performance to achieve ambitious sales objectives.
Responsibilities
Management
* Set the context for the team by defining measurable targets, KPIs and providing the support framework (tools, training, processes, structure).
* Provide clarity through regular forward guidance and feedback on performance via 1:1s and monthly reviews.
* Drive results by distributing workload, hiring, and escalating issues as required.
* Generate energy and engagement, reward high performance and promote a safe work environment.
* Actively support and encourage personal development and career growth for team members.
Sales Strategy & Planning
* Develop and implement sales strategies tailored to the SME market in the UK.
* Conduct regular analysis of market trends, competitor activities and customer needs.
* Accurately forecast sales revenue and manage the pipeline to consistent target achievement.
Customer Relationship Management & Sales Execution
* Acquire new SME clients by identifying opportunities and developing tailored propositions.
* Guide the team in adopting a consultative sales approach, helping SMEs understand FX and payments solutions.
Sales Operations
* Ensure effective CRM usage to track leads and opportunities.
* Regularly report sales performance to senior management, providing insights and recommendations.
Collaboration & Communication
* Work closely with marketing, product development and customer support to align sales efforts with company objectives.
* Keep the team informed of company updates, product developments and market changes.
Compliance & Risk Management
* Ensure all sales activities comply with regulations and company policies in the financial services sector.
Product Knowledge
* Maintain a deep understanding of FX and payment products—including features, benefits and differentiators.
* Ensure the sales team is well‑versed and able to address customer inquiries.
Business Development
* Identify and pursue strategic partnerships that expand market reach.
* Explore new market opportunities within the UK to tap into additional customer segments.
Budget Management
* Allocate resources effectively to maximize return on investment.
* Monitor and control sales‑related expenses to maintain profitability while growing.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
* Gather feedback from the sales team and clients to improve products, services and processes.
* Encourage innovative selling approaches to keep the company competitive.
Qualifications
* Experience leading high‑performance teams in FX or financial services.
* Ability to create context, clarity and handle difficult conversations.
* Results‑orientated mindset with celebration of success.
* Strong knowledge of FX market, products, regulatory environment in UK and Canada.
* Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
* Strong analytical skills to interpret sales data and market trends.

* Adaptable, tenacious, flexible and resilient under pressure.
* Proficient in CRM systems and sales management tools.
* Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field; postgraduate qualification a plus.
