Financial Controller | Construction Sector | £65,000 - £80,000 | Manchester
Robert Half is working with a fast-growing, forward-thinking construction group to recruit a Financial Controller. This senior position reports directly to the Board of Directors and offers the chance to shape and lead the finance function at a pivotal stage in the company's growth.
You'll oversee a small, established finance team and take responsibility for all day-to-day financial operations, while also providing strategic insight at board level. This is a hands-on role that combines operational leadership with the opportunity to influence long-term planning, reporting, and systems improvements to support continued expansion.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead, develop, and mentor a small but dedicated finance team.
2. Manage all core financial operations including management accounts, payroll, invoicing, and credit control.
3. Act as the key finance voice at board level, delivering clear insight and strategic support.
4. Partner with divisional leaders to strengthen controls, enhance reporting, and support commercial decision-making.
5. Drive process improvements and implement scalable systems aligned to business growth.
6. Provide a reliable "safe pair of hands" while contributing to future initiatives such as profit-sharing schemes.
About You
7. Background in construction, contracting, or a related sector (highly desirable).
8. ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or part-qualified).
9. Experience in a growing, fast-paced SME environment.
10. Strong communicator with the authority and confidence to operate at board level.
11. Hands-on and pragmatic, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and day-to-day delivery.
12. Ambitious, with a clear appetite to progress into a future Finance Director role.
