We’re delighted to be supporting a highly respected, independent HR and employment law consultancy as they continue their exciting growth journey.
Established in 2007, this close-knit, values-led business has built a loyal client base of over 100 SMEs, providing practical, pragmatic advice across all aspects of HR and employment law.
Due to continued success, they are now looking to appoint a Managing Consultant to work closely alongside the Managing Director and play a pivotal role in the next phase of growth.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a trusted client-facing role where relationships, credibility and commercial thinking truly matter.
What you’ll be doing:
This is a varied, hands‑on and highly consultative position where no two days will look the same.
You’ll be:
* Acting as a trusted advisor to a portfolio of SME clients, responding to a wide range of HR and employment law queries.
* Providing pragmatic, risk‑based advice rather than ‘black and white’ answers.
* Supporting with complex employee relations cases including disciplinaries, grievances and investigations.
* Attending client meetings and hearings (typically local) to guide and support processes.
* Advising on redundancy projects, TUPE, and organisational change.
* Leading on or supporting settlement agreements and without prejudice conversations.
* Drafting and updating contracts, policies and employee handbooks.
* Delivering ad‑hoc guidance, training and insight to clients.
* Building strong, long-term relationships where consistency and trust are key.
* Contributing to business growth through networking, ideas and client development.
* You’ll also play a part in shaping internal processes and helping the business evolve as it scales.
What we’re looking for:
This role will suit a confident, experienced HR professional who thrives in a consultative environment.
You’ll bring:
* Significant experience across HR and employment law (consultancy or SME experience is highly desirable).
* The confidence to handle complex and unfamiliar situations, using sound judgement.
* A pragmatic, solutions‑led approach with strong commercial awareness.
* The ability to build genuine, long‑term relationships with clients.
* Excellent communication skills – approachable, clear and credible.
* A collaborative mindset with a desire to be part of a small, supportive team.
You may be:
* An experienced HR Consultant looking for more autonomy and variety.
* Running your own consultancy but ready to focus purely on client delivery.
* An employment lawyer wanting a more people-focused, advisory role or a senior HR professional seeking a more consultative career path.
* Relevant qualifications (CIPD and/or employment law) are welcomed but experience and approach are equally important.
What’s in it for you:
* Salary circa £60,000 – £70,000.
* 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
* Private healthcare.
* Annual bonus (discretionary).
* Flexible, grown‑up approach to working hours.
* A genuinely supportive and friendly team environment.
* The opportunity to shape your role and influence the future of the business.
