Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Emergency Department team as a Patient Flow Assistant.

The role supports the Nurse and Consultant in Charge with the safe and timely flow of patients through the department.

This is a full time position and the team covers a 24/7 period so please ensure you are able to work a variety of shifts before applying.


Main duties of the job

* Ensure that there are up to date plans for all patients > 2 hours.
* Ensure that clerking is up to date in real time.
* Cross reference all patients in the Emergency Department to ensure that all referred patients are on the tracker.
* Accurately input the Bed Booked times.
* Ensure referral times to specialties and specialty outcomes are recorded accurately.
* Ensure coding is completed by a clinician prior to discharge and the patient is removed.
* Gather information prior to each safety huddle and complete the template accurately.
* Monitor and escalation IPS breaches to area leads/clinical staff/nurse in charge and work to support achievement of IPS.
* Liaise with Diagnostic Services.
* Follow up and highlight available clinical reports to clinician/nurse such as CT reports and Lab results.
* Book porters for patient transfers.
* Answer the phone and under the direction of the nurse in charge, respond to or redirect calls as appropriate.
* Contribute towards creating a high performance, continuously improving environment by being proactive in identifying patient pathway delays and highlighting to the necessary team.


Person specification


Education & Qualifications

* Good standard of education including 5 GCSE/Equivalent.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
* Evidence of ongoing personal development.
* ECDL or IT qualification.


EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

* Experience of dealing with members of the public face to face and over the telephone.
* Knowledge of Trust and Departmental NHS Targets.
* Medical terminology.
* Familiarity of the emergency department Electronic Patient Record system.


SKILLS AND ABILITY

* Excellent organisational skills.
* Ability to prioritise work.
* Ability to follow a procedure / instruction and feedback to senior staff.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Ability to remain calm when the department is experiencing extreme pressures.
