We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our trainees in the provision of daytime anaesthesia in a supervised capacity. This opportunity is suited to a trainee who has completed three years of Core Training in Anaesthesia and has passed the Primary FRCA exam. The post is supported by the division of anaesthesia and theatres and requires the applicant to have completed three years of Anaesthesia training, including the Initial Assessment of Competence in Obstetric Anaesthesia (IACOA), in a recognised training post.
Training and supervision will be provided in a manner similar to our existing trainees, with consideration of educational requirements. The successful candidate will partake in the senior anaesthetic trainee or obstetric trainee on‑call rota, including night shifts, alongside ST3 and CT-level anaesthetic trainees. The year may include a 3‑month placement on the Critical Care Unit in line with Royal College guidance.
* Partake in the day‑to‑day running of operating lists in all specialties, under both direct and indirect supervision.
* Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of anaesthesia for on‑call and elective daytime surgery.
* Share responsibility with colleagues for the Obstetric and Senior Anaesthetic Trainee on‑call rota.
* Cover the Critical Care Unit to intermediate training standards.
* Ensure active participation in Continuing Medical Education (CME).
* Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
* Attend Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust meetings as appropriate.
* Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including any out‑of‑hours responsibilities.
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is part of the Cornwall Healthcare Community, working in partnership with other local Trusts to deliver high‑quality healthcare services across the county. The Trust provides acute medical and surgical services to a population of around 400,000 and has a higher proportion of elderly people than the national average. RCHT comprises four hospitals: The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro, West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance and St Michael’s in Hayle, along with a new day‑surgery facility at St Austell.
