The Position

This role is to provide nutritional support care in both primary and secondary care in Orkney as well as offering a more general dietetic service to the local community. It offers an excellent opportunity to deliver a wide range of nutritional care with emphasis on nutritional support, oral nutritional support and therapeutic diets in both community settings, including service users' homes, residential care, supported living, sheltered housing and in the Balfour Hospital.

The Candidate

We are committed to the training of dietetic students, carers, families and other Health Care Professionals. Excellent communication skills are therefore essential in this role as is the ability to work independently.

Travel across Orkney is a key aspect of this role, so a full driving licence is required. The position offers robust peer support and the chance to gain experience in dietetics throughout the islands. NHS Orkney leverages modern technology, including electronic patient records and the Near Me platform, to improve patient care. We are committed to supporting continuous professional development. Applicants must hold current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Location, Working Pattern and Contract Duration:

This post will be based at The Balfour

The successful candidate will work: Full Time 37 hours per week - NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37 to 36 hours per week from 1 April 2026 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working arrangements. Part time hours, condensed hours and job share options can be considered in line with service needs

This post is Fixed-Term for 12 months due to the substantive postholders return from Maternity leave

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NHS Orkney.

The salary for this post is Band 6 and if residing on Orkney, you'll also receive a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,657 pro rata per annum, adding extra value to your rewarding career with us.
