Offer description

Do you love working with people? Are you the kind of person who can strike up a conversation with anyone and put them instantly at ease? Do you believe families deserve a warm welcome and a bit of kindness, especially in difficult times? Then you might be just who we're looking for

HMP & YOI Polmont Prison Visitor Support Service

Visiting Support Services are often the first point of contact for families and loved ones visiting someone in prison. It's a space where people arrive with nerves, questions, emotions and our team is there to greet them with a smile, a cuppa, and a calm, friendly presence.

You'll be leading a team to support visitors before and after their visit, answering questions, offering reassurance, signposting to further support, and helping create a safe, welcoming environment.

This is a flexible, people-focused role that might suit you if you're looking to:

* Work around other life commitments
* Be part of a supportive team without needing to commit to full-time hours

Shifts are available across 7 days, including one weekend per month.

If you're someone who thrives on variety, enjoys being around people, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

* Greeting visitors and helping them feel welcome and informed
* Chatting with children and families, helping ease anxieties about the visit
* Signposting people to local and national support services
* Working closely with prison staff and other partners
* Handling sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism
* Providing guidance and support to colleagues and volunteers, modelling best practice
* Monitoring and reviewing service delivery to maintain high quality standards
* Acting as the main point of contact for partner agencies on specialist issues
* Contributing to staff training, supervision, and reflective practice sessions

Who We're Looking For

You don't need to have worked in a prison before, we'll provide training. What matters most is your personality:

* Warm, approachable and non-judgmental
* Confident communicator with people of all ages and backgrounds
* Good under pressure and emotionally resilient
* Reliable, a team player, and not afraid to muck in

Ready to help others create a future beyond their past?

We'd love to hear from you Apply now or contact us for an informal chat.

Membership of the Prevention of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is required.

We offer some great benefits, including family friendly policies, flexible and hybrid working and work-life balance. We also have generous annual leave entitlement, employee wellbeing scheme (Perkbox), pension scheme and death in service, company sick pay.
