Working in the Mustard Tree cancer support centre at University Hospital Plymouth NHS Trust, the postholder will provide a professional and confidential, face to face counselling service to cancer patients and their families and carers. The clients may have experienced significant emotional, psychological or relationship problems during their cancer journey.
The post holder will be part of a large and diverse and team of professionals who support those following a cancer diagnosis. They will form part of the psychological support team, including a clinical psychologist and other counsellors, and work alongside support workers, physiotherapy, financial support and voluntary services, as well as supporting the wider oncology teams at UHP.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and ‘At Risk’ status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
The Mustard Tree centre provides information and support to cancer patients, their families and carers. The clients present with a range of complex concerns which require a holistic and timely response, and can be referred into the centre from health care professionals, or present to the centre through drop in.
The counselling service provides support to clients who are inpatients at times, and work in a face to face setting in the centre, or by means of virtual appointment. They also contribute to group sessions and ongoing service development and projects.
The post holder will receive a comprehensive induction, one to one line management and supervision, including external supervision, to support their well being and professional development.
