About The Role
The role is responsible for the leadership, management and operation of the portfolio of programmes on a designated campus. The Academic Manager is the senior academic presence on campus. They ensure the effective delivery, quality assurance and development of the student experience, lead and manage the requisite programme teams, and work closely with the central Senior Academic Teams in the delivery of key academic priorities.
What You'll be Responsible for
Academic Leadership
1. Assume leadership responsibility for programme(s) on campus
2. Ensure a comprehensive familiarity with the ADEUK strategic plan and ensure that departmental developments within the designated remit align with strategic objectives
3. Line manage designated faculty reports, modelling management behaviors
4. Actively contribute to the continual improvement of the student experience, in keeping with the LTA Strategy
5. Promote research, scholarly and professional practice in keeping with the RSPP Strategy
6. Maintain activity and credibility as a practitioner
7. Contribute to the development, and implementation of ongoing portfolio review and future portfolio plans
8. Lead the team in the implementation, where appropriate, of action plans and priorities in relation to employability, retention, TEF, and NSS.
9. Model and promote best practice in equality, diversity and inclusion
10. Engage with research, scholarly activity and professional practice in specialist areas, and the dissemination of this activity across faculty
11. Undertake appropriate CPD that enhances the operation of the role, contributes to the student experience, or business development
12. Engage with relevant external networks and liaising as appropriate with professional bodies and other external organisations as required by the Senior Academic Teams
13. Represent ADEUK at external events as directed by senior leaders
14. Report to the Head of Student & Staff Services on any emergent SEND, Health &
15. Wellbeing and Health and Safety with respect to students
Student experience
16. Contribute, within a specified allocation of hours, to taught delivery and assessment
17. Provide managerial oversight and leadership of the programme delivery teams to ensure an inclusive and vibrant student experience
18. Monitor and make any necessary intervention in the delivery of the designated programmes
19. Oversee and delegate responsibility, as appropriate, for the monitoring of student attendance and engagement.
20. Ensuring students are appropriately supported and guided through the relevant student support mechanisms
21. Contributing academic input to complaints and disciplinary matters
22. Reviewing and approving extenuating circumstances applications
Academic quality assurance
23. Chair of the Programme Committees for the designated campus
24. Represent academic interests on relevant management groups
25. Ensure a comprehensive familiarity with the institutional Quality cycle and academic regulations
26. Chair of Campus Assessment Panel and responsibility for campus audits before reporting into the national team
27. Ensure coordination of marking and moderation, and distribution of work to External Examiners
28. Ensure, with faculty colleagues, that module and programme specifications are systematically met in delivery
29. Lead, and work with direct reports, on the production and monitoring of Annual
30. Monitoring Reports and Quality Improvement Plans
31. Represent the programmes at internal and external award boards and assessment panels as appropriate
32. Attend the Awards ceremonies
33. Approve extenuating circumstances applications
Timetabling
34. Oversee the coordination and implementation of campus-level academic timetabling.
35. Ensure alignment of timetables with curriculum design, space availability, resource and student needs.
Other duties
36. Any other duties appropriate to the role, as designated by the senior leadership team
About you
You’re likely to be someone with experience in academic leadership, comfortable working in a hands-on environment. You’ll have a background in teaching in higher education (ideally in the creative arts or a related area), and a track record of supporting student success. You’ll understand how quality processes work, and know how to make them meaningful.
You’re thoughtful, organised, and a natural collaborator. You believe in inclusive education and want to help shape an academic culture where students and staff can flourish.
We’re especially looking for
37. A Postgraduate Degree or equivalent qualifications/industry experience in the subject area.
38. A teaching qualification relevant to higher education or Fellowship of Advance HE.
39. Evidence of subject expertise and industry engagement.
40. Experience working in a leadership and management role in a Higher Education environment.
41. Experience in effective curriculum development activity and understanding quality and standards in a higher education and creative arts specialist context.
42. Experience in driving teaching quality with a demonstrable impact on student outcomes.
43. Experience teaching in a higher education context.
44. Understanding the Higher Education Framework for England and relevant compliance and regulatory issues impacting the student learning experience.
45. Evidence of successful delivery initiatives, projects, and policy changes.
46. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
