Summary

As a Warehouse Apprentice you will be a key part of the day-to-day operations of the Letchworth branch. Your role will focus on ensuring the receiving, storage, picking, and assist loading of stock is completed efficiently and accurately, contributing to the smooth running of the factory and accurate deliveries to our customer base.

Wage

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.


What you'll do at work

* Receive and assist storing goods accurately in the correct locations within the warehouse.
* Prepare customer orders according to sales requirements and assist loading them onto vehicles.
* Splitting bundles of steel into smaller pack sizes & re-band in a safe & secure manner.
* Sign for deliveries and maintain accurate stock records.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe warehouse environment.
* Assist carrying out daily checks and maintain forklifts in a safe working condition.
* Promote a “Everyone Safe, Every Day,” culture by ensuring the safety of yourself and colleagues.
* Build positive relationships with customers and suppliers when collection and deliveries are made and when loading our own drivers.
* Be flexible and assist with stocktaking and overtime as required.

* Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
* Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
* Receive products in line with organisational procedures.
* Store and pick products in line with organisational procedures.
* Dispatch products in line with organisational procedures.
* Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
* Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
* Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
* Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
* Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
* Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
* Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
* Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
* support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
* Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
* Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
* Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
* Carry out and record learning and development activities.
* Conducts handover activities.

Training schedule

* Training via a work mentor and Cambridge Regional College
* Opportunity to gain an insight and training into Supply Chain logistics in a Warehouse environment.
* To progress your skill sets.
* In house Fork-Lift Truck Training.
* Training on an industry leading stock control software package.


Requirements


Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

* English (grade 3 or D)
* Maths (grade 4 or C)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

There is a high degree of manual handling so is quite a physical job also the warehouse in not heated but is enclosed so can get cold when the outside temperature drops.
