An exciting opportunity has come available for an enthusiastic, motivated, Specialist Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections of Blood Sciences at University Hospitals Dorset. We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team. The Haematology & Blood Transfusion department is part of the Blood Sciences department of University Hospitals Dorset. The post is based at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital, but the successful candidate will be working at our laboratory in Poole on rotation. The modern departments offers a wide range of diagnostic testing facilities for Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals as well as local GP practices. The department is fully UKAS accredited and an IBMS accredited training laboratory.
The successful candidate will regularly rotate through all sections of the Haematology & Blood Transfusion department and will be required to participate in the 24/7 shift system.
Qualifications
* BSc and MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a BMS
* Completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio (Haematology) or equivalent proven experience at Band 6 level in Haematology/Blood Transfusion
* Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD) demonstrated at interview
Team & Facilities
The Haematology department is well equipped, including 3 Beckman Coulter DxH 900s, a Starstedt ESR analyser, and 2 Sta R Max coagulation analysers. The clinical Haematology department is internationally renowned as a centre of excellence for chronic blood disorders including chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. The Coagulation department supports a comprehensive haemophilia service and provides a full range of coagulation tests.
The Transfusion department is keen and progressive contributing to several NHSBT pilots and steering groups, the latest being one of four full sites for the Integrated Stock Management Scheme. Transfusion also offers opportunity to contribute to the clinical trials we are participating in, and we have a very keen interest in patient blood management. We are fully automated with 2 new Bio‑Rad IH500 analysers, electronic issue, electronic dispatch note, automatic stock replenishment and full Haemonetics blood tracking from vein to vein.
