Contract: Permanent, Full‑time
Band: 2 – Salary £25,272 a year
Working pattern: Rotating shift covering 24/7

Key Responsibilities
* Operate and maintain a customer‑focused, efficient, fast and accurate telecommunications service, including switchboard, administration duties and coordination of all emergency procedures at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
* Respond to all emergency calls and alarms (major incidents, fire, cardiac arrest, flat baby alerts, lift breakdowns, etc.), reacting swiftly and correctly and following procedure to ensure all relevant persons are contacted according to hospital/Trust processes.
* Ensure accurate information is recorded and reported as required, liaise with appropriate companies for any telephone or alarm faults.
* Co‑ordinate booking of official taxis, examine and prepare accounts before authorisation of each journey.
* Assist with recording and costing of private calls, invoicing, monitoring private accounts and submitting required reports for the Trust.
* Participate in reprogramming equipment associated with the telephone service (bleeps, faxes, mobiles, long‑range pagers), maintain accurate records, update the directory, call logger and ISDX system, and provide regular printouts and associated administration duties.
* Compile daily information boards (doctors & managers on‑call duty boards, leave lists, residents list, information book) to ensure accurate communication at all levels.
* Mentor and shadow new staff as directed by telecommunications management to maintain high department profile.

Qualifications and Experience
* Telephony experience and sound education.
* Typing and word‑processing skills/qualifications.
* Experience working in an office environment.
* Proven skills in using Microsoft Office.
* Ability to work using own initiative and without supervision.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and in emergencies.
* Ability to train new operators.
* Excellent customer care and administrative skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable:
* Understanding of Trust sensitivity and confidentiality.
* Willingness to be flexible and juggle many priorities calmly.
