This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding academic or practitioner to join a highly professional and motivated team to teach across our nursing programmes. The School of Nursing and Midwifery has a reputation for contemporary and innovative Nursing and Midwifery provision, including FdSc Nursing Associate, BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult and Mental Health) and MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Apprenticeships. Our NMC approved programmes are nationally recognised for their high quality, student satisfaction, and sustained high employability of our alumni.
Main duties of the job
The focus of this post is on the delivery of our pre-registration portfolio, predominantly on the FdSc Nursing Associate and BSc Nursing apprenticeship provision. The successful candidate will work within a dedicated academic team with responsibility for delivering pre-registration apprenticeship courses to satisfy the requirements of the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education Standards (IFATE) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
The post holder will be expected to teach a range of core subjects and should have a flexible approach to the subject material they teach. The post holder will, therefore, be committed to promoting academic enquiry, helping develop critical thinking in students by supporting safe, effective and evidence-based practice. By providing expert knowledge, they will lead agreed modules, assess students and supervise projects. The post holder should be able to draw upon his or her own subject knowledge to design teaching sessions that maximise the integration of theory to practice. They will also be able to inspire and motivate apprentices, colleagues and employers and be committed to compliance with the regulatory and quality assurance processes for occupational apprenticeships through collaborative working practices from recruitment through to apprenticeship award.

* To contribute through module and / or course leadership the academic, clinical skills and simulation teaching within the School, drawing on ones own area of specialism and to design teaching sessions which maximise the integration of theory to clinical practice.
* To contribute to the assessment process for students including the setting, marking and moderation of work, individually or collectively as part of a team in accordance with quality assurance procedures.
* To contribute to the design and development of innovative, inclusive, and inspiring learning materials and assessments including e-learning.
* To act as a Personal Academic Tutor, which includes Individual Learner Progress Reviews (ILPR`s).
* To ensure all teaching, learning and assessment activity meets the requirements of university quality assurance processes and external quality standards such as the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IFATE) occupational standards aligned to the Professional Body standards (Nursing and Midwifery Council, NMC), The Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) and are compliant with the Educational and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).
* To provide support for external quality inspections (e.g. OFSTED, NMC, EFSA), which may be at short notice, and may necessitate working outside of normal office hours.
* To engage as an Academic Assessor to collate and confirm student achievement of NMC proficiencies and programme outcomes.
* To carry out academic administrative work and participate in relevant committees within the School and College.
* To participate in the recruitment of students, including selection events and open days.
* To ensure that the teaching for which you are responsible is informed by contemporary research, scholarship, knowledge exchange and professional practice, and develops the ability of students to engage in debate, critical discourse and thinking.
* Where appropriate, to undertake research, scholarship, and knowledge transfer through engaging in professional practice and contributing to research and its dissemination through publication.

Qualifications
Essential
* A first degree in Nursing or a relevant health subject.
* Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registerable qualification in Adult Nursing.
* Current registration with the NMC.
Desirable
* Post Graduate Certificate Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCTHE).
* Essential for Senior Lecturer (Teaching): Relevant Masters qualification or working towards.
* PhD or other Doctoral Qualification.
Knowledge and Skills

* Demonstrable capacity to make a substantial contribution to the Learning & Teaching agenda within the nursing curriculum(s).
* A sound understanding of Apprenticeships, including regulatory and quality assurance processes.
