The Role


Pield Heath House School is looking for a friendly adaptable HLTA who is experienced in working with children / young people with severe and complex leaning needs across various key stages.

The aim of the HLTA is to provide phonics interventions across the whole school and cover class groups where needed to allow for effective teaching & learning to continue.

The successful candidate will work alongside subject leads, teachers and class tutors to work collaboratively to ensure appropriate differentiation and learning strategies are in place for all students.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is eager to take on a new challenge and work with the schools teaching & learning team to further develop student learning resources across the school. You will be able to demonstrate a willingness to commit to the following principles;

1. Team worker – able to work positively with others, encourages input from all and actively contributes to team discussions working to come to consensus decisions.

2. Flexibility – will always go the extra mile to meet the needs of the job, undertaking a variety of work to achieve the best outcomes for students.

3. Constantly seeks improvement (Commitment to develop professionally)– of their own skills, knowledge and ways of working as well as systems of work and resources to do the job. Has high expectations of themselves and students.

4. Uses initiative - when identifying tasks to be done and priorities.

5. Consistency of purpose – is able to act consistently and make decisions fairly when working with students and staff.

6. Judgement – can exercise good judgements based on sound facts, knows when to step back or get involved when dealing with students or staff. Can identify which things are of a confidential nature and who are the right people to inform.

7. Communicator – socially and professionally skilled at dealing with people and is able to engender the confidence of others, displaying exemplary social skills at all times and a sensitivity in the light of confidential information.

8. Empathy – with young people with a wide range of specific needs and from a range of backgrounds.

9. Punctuality and Attendance - is on time every morning to prepare for the day and has exemplary attendance to ensure consistency of learning for the students and to maximise their progress within the employability skills.

Candidates

Essential:

●Have evidence of a specialism in literacy and reading development or another area of need.

●Experienced in working with children / young people with additional needs in a learning environment.

●Have excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills.

●Organisation/prioritisation skills.

●Be able to demonstrate positive interpersonal and communication skills.

●Be able to demonstrate professional conduct, enthusiasm and initiative at all times.

●Express empathy for all students and demonstrate flexibility and resilience.
