About the company

Blacks Visual Merchandising were established in 1998 and are an industry leading retail design and manufacturing house. Comprising of a design studio in the heart of London, and our offices and busy factory situated near the quintessential village of Wetherby, in North Yorkshire. Our factory is the workplace of over 50 skilled craftspeople, equipped with the latest technology, to ensure that we produce everything in-house to an exceptional standard for our customers.

We are a people-centred organisation that has one eye on our customers’ needs and one eye on the needs of our amazing employees to ensure that the hard work required within the business does not go unnoticed.

Blacks Visual Merchandising is an equal opportunities employer.

About the Role

We’re looking for a friendly, experienced, and organised LED Department Manager to look after the entire lifecycle of our LED projects — from design and production through to installation and ongoing maintenance. This is a hands-on, leadership role where you’ll use both your technical know-how and your people skills to deliver high-quality LED solutions for our retail clients across the UK and Europe.

Your Key Responsibilities

You’ll take the lead in making sure our LED team is supported and that projects run smoothly, including:

· Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the LED sign department — including setting up and installing LED systems (fixtures, controllers, and wiring) both in-house and on-site.

· Supervising the design, manufacturing, and installation of bespoke LED projects.

· Keeping projects on track — making sure they’re completed on time, to budget, and to the client’s requirements.

· Supporting and guiding a small team of technicians.

· Staying on top of stock control and organising tools, equipment, and vehicles.

· Creating and delivering training to help the team grow their skills.

· Liaising with clients, suppliers, designers, and project managers, building strong and positive relationships.

· Supporting the PM team with costing and planning.

· Providing hands-on help and technical support to clients during installation, on-site or in-house.

· Keeping everyone safe by ensuring health & safety standards (e.g. BS 7671) and reporting any issues as needed.

· Carrying out occasional site visits, fixing any on-site problems, and making sure our work is always high quality.

· Keeping the workspace clean, organised, and up to date — including department boards and equipment checks.

· Sourcing components and staying up to date with new technologies in LED, lighting, robotics, automation, and more.

· Visiting trade shows, meeting suppliers, and becoming a champion of new products and trends.

· Helping manage overtime and identify any bottlenecks — and then working together to improve processes.

· Be mindful of sustainability in the manufacturing process and disposal

Essential Requirements

We are looking for someone how has:

· Proven experience in the signage industry, especially with LED signs.

· Solid knowledge of LED technology, electrical systems, and installation techniques.

· Familiarity with health & safety and electrical standards.

· Previous experience leading a team.

· Strong communication and organisation skills.

· A proactive attitude toward learning and self-development.

· Willingness to travel and work outside of standard hours if needed.

· Full UK driving licence.

Your Skills & Approach

We’d love someone who:

· Leads by example and supports everyone around them.

· Encourages independent thinking and teamwork.

· Has a friendly, approachable style that keeps morale high.

· Is a practical, hands‑on problem solver who enjoys tackling technical challenges.

· Works carefully and takes pride in delivering a high-standard finish.

· Communicates clearly and confidently with all kinds of people — customers, suppliers, and teammates alike.

· Is flexible and embraces new ideas, technologies, and ways of working.

· Keeps one eye on commercial priorities and looks for ways to improve.

· Stays curious and excited about the signage world, looking for new trends and innovations.
