Overview

The role involves supporting and prompting a person with a disability in daily activities and social participation. The successful candidate will be reliable, empathetic and able to work flexibly to meet the individual’s needs.


Responsibilities

* Support and/or prompt with personal care, including toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, and getting dressed.
* Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
* Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
* Assist and encourage socialisation, and participation in activities.
* Promote and encourage friendships and independence.
* Develop a good and trusting one-to-one working relationship.
* The individual’s needs may vary day to day and tasks may reflect this. You may be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.
* Report all accidents to the employer immediately and report defects or hazards which may cause an accident. Ensure the safety of the individual at all times.
* Car driver preferred but not essential.
* Be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
* Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.
* Work on own initiative and follow instructions accurately.
* Be patient, supportive and caring with good listening skills and non-judgemental emotional support.
* Be empathetic.
* Previous caring experience is not essential, but a genuine interest in supporting people with a disability/illness to achieve their goals is required.
* Be able to work flexibly, adapting to the employer’s needs on a daily basis; flexible hours are an advantage.
* Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.


About the assignment

To support a child with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy (gross motor function classification level 3). This mainly affects his lower limbs. He is verbal and able to express his wants and needs. He enjoys taking part in activities and getting out and about (uses a Kaye walker or wheelchair if needed). During school holidays, hours may be longer as needed. Time can also be spent at home playing board games.
