Overview
We are recruiting for a Lead Technical Architect to join Companies House architecture team. This is a key role in a small, high performing team within an organisation that values its staff. The team develops technical architectures that deliver business objectives, while encouraging collaboration and challenging established thinking to create effective designs with a focus on delivering value.
This is an opportunity to advance knowledge and technical understanding in a high-profile role with impact across the organisation, developing systems used nationally and at high volume. We currently fulfill around 14 million search requests per day with users including the general public, businesses, the police and other government organisations.
You will work with the wider Digital and Technology Directorate, collaborating with business stakeholders to develop technical designs that address business priorities and guide development teams in creating robust, secure solutions. The role involves working with the latest cloud technologies, developing microservice architectures and shaping the organisation\'s technical direction. You will have excellent technical skills, proven architecture design experience and a background in software engineering.

Responsibilities
* Providing technical guidance and architectural designs to shape the future digital services at Companies House, and communicating these to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Establishing and maintaining architectural principles, strategy, governance and technical direction for Companies House services.
* Working closely with the architecture team to ensure designs are consistent and fit for purpose.
* Keeping up to date with new technologies and processes and applying this knowledge to improve services.
* Collaborating with development teams to ensure outputs adhere to architectural designs.
* Roles may emphasise Cloud, Security, Infrastructure and Automation; candidates should demonstrate proficiency in these areas as well as broader architecture.
Qualifications and experience
Technical experience
Our current stack includes: node.js, Java/Spring, Kafka and MongoDB running in AWS. Exposure to these technologies is beneficial. Proven commercial experience in:
* API Development
* Cloud Computing Platforms
* Designing Secure and Scalable Systems
Desirable:
* Distributed Event Streaming
* NoSQL Databases
* Relational Databases
* Containerisation, Automation and DevOps practices
* Infrastructure, Platform and Software Delivery Operations
Salary and benefits
Salary: £51,854 plus employer pension contributions to the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme (£15,022), total package described by Civil Service terms. Benefits include:
