Workshop Technician – Garden Machinery Overview

We are seeking a skilled Workshop Technician to join our busy garden machinery workshop. This role requires someone who can work independently, take initiative, and contribute to the smooth running and continual improvement of workshop operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on technical ability, good computer literacy, and an eye for detail when it comes to parts identification and workflow development.

Key Responsibilities

* Machinery Maintenance & Repair
* Diagnose, service, and repair a wide range of garden machinery including mowers, chainsaws, strimmers, and other powered equipment.
* Ensure all work is carried out to a high standard, maintaining safety and reliability.
* Parts & Inventory Management
* Confidently read and interpret parts lists, schematics, and technical diagrams.
* Order and manage parts efficiently, ensuring the correct components are used.
* Use workshop software and computer systems to log work, track inventory, and process service records.
* Process Improvement
* Support the development of workshop systems and workflows.
* Suggest and implement improvements to streamline operations, reduce downtime, and enhance quality.
* Assist in setting standards for best practice in repair, servicing, and documentation.
* Customer Service & Communication
* Provide clear communication with customers regarding repair timelines, costs, and machinery care.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.

Skills & Experience Required

* Proven experience working with garden, agricultural, or small engine machinery.
* Ability to work independently and manage own workload in a busy environment.
* Competence with computer systems and workshop management software.
* Strong ability to read and interpret technical manuals, parts lists, and diagrams.
* Practical problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to diagnostics.
* Enthusiasm for continuous improvement and maintaining high-quality standards.

Desirable

* Formal qualifications in mechanics, engineering, or related field.
* Experience in developing workshop systems or lean workflows.
* Knowledge of health and safety compliance in a workshop setting.
