Description
As a Senior Mechanical Design at the GMAE you will be responsible for utilizing CAD packages for ideation and design production, designing new components, and testing various vehicle components to ensure performance, safety, and structural integrity. You will also troubleshoot design-to-manufacturing issues, oversee system design and manufacture, manage engineering tasks, and support testing activities.
Key Responsibilities
Using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Packages: Use of computer-aided design (CAD) packages to develop ideas and produce designs.
Designing New Components: Taking on the responsibility of designing, planning, and executing new components, while also engaging in research and development of new designs and technologies for existing or new vehicles within the GMG vehicle portfolio.
Designing and Testing Various Vehicle Components: Designing and testing components to verify performance, safety, and structural integrity, such as fuel technologies and safety systems. Also involved in designing new vehicle models or systems (e.g., suspension systems) and troubleshooting design or manufacturing issues. Monitoring and analysing data from various tests administered on different components of the vehicle to ensure proper function.
Troubleshooting: Addressing design-to-manufacturing issues and vice versa, encompassing quality engineering, fit, finish, and compliance.
Architectural Design, Vehicle Systems and Subsystems: Developing the design of vehicle systems from concept to detail, employing Kinematic models and real-life representations of components such as the tyre envelope, and constructing package design representations based on requirements such as certification requirements, technical sections, and creating compliance requirement models to the relevant legislation.
Overseeing System Design and Manufacture: Overseeing the supply of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system design and the manufacture of components and assemblies. Responsible for conducting Design for Manufacture (DFM) activities with suppliers.
Managing Tasks: Managing Engineering tasks by maintaining project documentation, providing regular updates to stakeholders, and preparing comprehensive reports on the status and outcomes.
Supporting Testing Activities: Support testing activities by ensuring compliance with attributes and requirements, providing guidance to the vehicle development department, and conducting testing activities to validate parts and subsystems using industry-standard methods.
Calculation Tools Generation: Lead the development of calculation tools for repetitive tasks and inspire others to do the same. This includes generating ideas for standardization, developing processes for calculations and design assessment, and improving efficiency in structural analysis.
Art and Engineering Design: Incorporating engineering art and design aesthetics into every component is a key aspect GMEA design ethos. Building upon the existing design ethos of lightweighting, performance, and structural integrity in harmony is important.
