Service Manager - SRH UEC

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Urgent and Emergency Care Directorate at St Richard's Hospital for a Service Manager. This will be vital as we drive forward our improvement programme that includes a brand new Same Day Emergency Care units opening in July and a significant service redesign of our Emergency Care and Urgent Treatment Centre pathways.

This fast paced role will join an existing strong directorate team supporting them, and the Divisional senior management team through the co-ordination of performance monitoring, clinical governance reporting, project work, and with gathering relevant information / production of reports as required.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be directly responsible for supporting and co- coordinating others to deliver timely and effective business support across for the Directorate, which will require strong planning, prioritising, administrative and organisational skills. Additionally, the post holder will be responsible for leading, developing and improving the overall management of administrative services for the Directorate and for the day to day line management of our managers, leads and administration staff, ensuring all statutory and mandatory training requirements and appraisals are maintained.

Job responsibilities

* Take a proactive lead in the day-to-day operational management of all UEC services acting as the designated operational bronze for the directorate, resolving internal and external barriers to patient flow, with appropriate escalation
* Use the highest degree of motivational and negotiating skills, ensure an atmosphere of collaboration across the service area to deliver a programme of continuous improvement in a challenging and demanding environment.
* To work closely with the Clinical Lead and Matron in a triumvirate approach supporting service delivery and cascade and escalate of information enabling the delivery of the Trusts strategy and objectives.
* Challenge internal and external parties where necessary to overcome barriers to change and understanding and to ensure that learning is shared and that risks are mitigated and reduced


Person Specification


Experience/Qualifications

* Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience
* Experience of managing performance activities in an NHS organisation
* Experience of managing people
* Experience of IT systems
* Experience of training and coaching staff
* Project Management Qualification
* Knowledge of NHS national targets
* Experiencing managing rotas and complex schedules


Skills

* Presentational skills: To interpret complex information and take appropriate action and provide expert advice as a result.
* To interpret trends in complex occurrences or complaints and take appropriate action and/or seek expert advice from appropriate sources
* To plan and prioritise own and facilitate the management teams work
* To identify and plan own professional development needs


Strategic

* Demonstrable previous success in leading and delivering change and performance initiatives
* Knowledge and understanding of recruitment and retention of staff and experience of successful deployment
* Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them
* Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively and to prioritise work programmes in the face of completing demands
* Knowledge and experience in the use of human resource policy and procedure
* Works on own initiative within Trust policies, referring to management for guidance when required


EDI

* Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role).
* Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
