Your role In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of physicists, mechanical engineers, and software engineers dedicated to developing and delivering advanced simulation and modelling solutions. Your work will drive innovation, support new product development, and enable commercial success across our vacuum technology business. You will report to the Technology Manager, Analytical Intelligence. Key Responsibilities Lead and Inspire: Manage and mentor a high-performing team, fostering technical growth and collaboration across disciplines. Technical Excellence: Act as a subject matter expert in at least one core discipline (e.g. vacuum science, mechanical modelling). Innovation Delivery: Plan and deliver new modelling methods and software tools for vacuum systems, mechanisms, and CAE-based analysis. Strategic Collaboration: Coordinate with internal and external modelling groups, centres of excellence, and external experts to align strategies and share expertise. Engineering Support: Provide bespoke engineering analyses to support R&D, innovation, and product development. Senior Representation: Represent the Analytical Services function at senior levels within the business and occasionally with external customers. Strategy Development: Develop and implement modelling strategies and tool development plans across the Vacuum Technique Technology Group (VTTG). To succeed, you will need Education: Degree in Maths, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline. Postgraduate qualifications are welcome, but not essential. Technical Skills: Proven experience in mathematical modelling, vacuum science, and/or delivering software tools for modelling physical systems. Strong coding skills (C# or similar) required; experience with CAE tools (FEA, CFD) and machine learning is advantageous. Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead a technical discipline and manage a team of specialists. Communication: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to represent your function at senior levels. Collaboration: Experience working cross-functionally and with external partners. Strategic Thinking: Ability to balance hands-on technical work with planning, strategy, and coordination.
