Managing Quantity Surveyor — Rail Projects at AmcoGiffen
Location: Warrington, North West
Region: North West & Central
About The Business Unit
A dynamic rail civils and infrastructure team delivering a broad portfolio across the region, including line-side rail civils, bridge and structure renewals, major structural installations, Access for All schemes and other station and civils works. Projects range from bridge upgrades and footbridges to platform improvements and line-side civil engineering.
Role Overview
Lead and develop the commercial function for rail civils projects across the North West region, managing a team of quantity surveyors and providing senior commercial support to project delivery teams. You will drive profitable project performance, manage contractual risk, and act as the client-facing commercial lead during negotiations and dispute resolution.
Key Responsibilities
 * Report to the Regional Commercial Manager and provide senior commercial leadership across multiple projects.
 * Manage and mentor a team of Assistant, Quantity and Senior Quantity Surveyors, providing day-to-day guidance and contractual advice.
 * Lead commercial management of site portfolios to deliver projects on time and within budget.
 * Prepare, check and submit accurate estimates and price submissions.
 * Resolve pricing queries and negotiate contractual changes and claims with clients.
 * Oversee contract administration under NEC, NR or bespoke contracts, including early warnings, change management and CVRs.
 * Liaise with site managers and subcontractors to gather information, control costs and manage final accounts.
 * Produce commercial reporting and support business development opportunities.
Experience And Qualifications
 * Proven experience as a Managing or Senior Quantity Surveyor in a contractor environment, with team leadership responsibility.
 * Strong background in civil engineering projects, preferably rail, bridges, roads or structures.
 * Experience with NEC, NR or bespoke contract administration and rail maintenance frameworks.
 * Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or equivalent.
 * Professional accreditation (MRICS or equivalent) desirable.
 * Excellent commercial, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
