The Opportunity
Our client is a leading engineering and maintenance provider, supporting customers across the chemical & petrochemical, nuclear, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals & biopharma, power & energy, utilities, renewables and food & beverage markets. Due to this, they are looking to expand their team with an experienced Lead Mechanical and Piping Engineer.
This role has been deemed inside / outside of IR35.
Salary Range: 65-70k Per Annum Dependent on experience
Your duties and responsibilities will be
1. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, responsible for leading the development of Mechanical and piping engineering and design within multi-discipline EPCM or EPC projects.
2. Managing projects from Concept Design to Execution Designs.
3. Delivering projects in sectors such as Oil & Gas, Energy, Utilities, Nuclear, Chemicals, and Food, across small and large projects.
4. Leading and mentoring a team of engineers and designers.
5. Ensuring quality in engineering designs and projects, including checking and approval of design deliverables.
6. Ensuring designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant standards, and specifications.
7. Managing and completing mechanical and piping design within scope, on time, and within budget, including change control and cross-disciplinary consistency.
8. Participating in design reviews and securing design acceptance by the client.
9. Making independent technical decisions and providing expert support within the team.
Qualifications and skills
* Mechanical Engineering qualification, preferably at Degree level (BEng or MEng).
* Minimum 5 years of experience in a Lead/Senior/Principal Engineer role.
* Experience in multi-discipline engineering projects.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IMechE or equivalent.
* Attention to detail and high-quality work from the start.
* Efficient task structuring and prioritization, considering dependencies across disciplines.
* Familiarity with mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Plant3D, E3D, Caesar II).
* Strong knowledge of engineering standards and specifications.
* Knowledge of IGEM standards.
* Deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, especially in design implementation.
* Proficiency in specifications, calculations, drawings, 3D models, schedules, and compliance assessments.
* Experience with ASME and BS EN piping standards.
* Knowledge of PED and PESR regulations.
* Strong leadership and communication skills.
* Ability to lead design reviews and present to clients.
* Effective planning and organization skills.
* Result-oriented with a focus on client satisfaction and high standards.
* Experience managing change control processes.
