The Role
Clyst Vale prides itself on its English offer from year 7 to 11 and, following the current Second in Department’s promotion to Head of Department, we are pleased to offer the position of Teacher of English with the potential for Second in Department for the right candidate. This is a fixed term position covering maternity leave for approximately one year, starting in May 2026. The successful candidate will be able to teach across KS3 and KS4.
We are looking for:
• An outstanding teacher with excellent subject knowledge.
• A practitioner who is keen to enthuse students using a variety of approaches.
• Experience of teaching English at General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) (desirable).
• A willingness to contribute to the enrichment activities of the department.

This role represents an opportunity for the right person to contribute to the development and strategic direction of the English Department. Collaborating closely with the Head of English, the Second in Department will play a pivotal role in supporting curriculum and staff development, ensuring the highest quality of teaching, and moving a strong department forward to become outstanding. The role attracts a TLR2b of £5,851. Please note, the position of Second in Department is being offered internally.
