Job Summary

The Defence School of Aeronautical Engineering (DSAE) is part of the Defence College of Technical Training (DCTT) and is responsible for the design, delivery and assurance of Aeronautical Engineering delivered to the three services. This position is a Course Design / Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Manager role for Training Standards and Design Organisation (TDSO) within DSAE at MOD Lyneham. The role will place in the Course Design team, part of the wider TDSO team which is responsible for the design, development and assurance of the training delivered to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Aviation Trainees at the School of Army Aeronautical Engineering.

The organisation has been awarded approval as a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Part 147 training establishment. This position will be to support the design and assurance of CAA Cat A3 through to Cat B1.3 & B2 training. Also Aviation Equipment / Supervisory / Management courses. Reviewing and updating the course documentation and managing the course deliveries on the VLE.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description


* Manage the design, review and maintenance of allocated courses and other aviation related projects as tasked by Officer Commanding (OC) TDSO which includes the production & maintenance of Course Documentation Sets in accordance with the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) Quality Standard.
* Liaise with the School of Army Aeronautical Engineering (SAAE) Training Delivery Departments to establish the training media requirements to meet the course objectives and to identify any Residual Training Gaps.
* Maintain configuration control of mandated DSAT training documentation produced by the Training Delivery Department in support of course Training Objectives (TOs).
* Manage the SAAE courses on the DSAE VLE iaw with JSP 822, DCTT & DSAE VLE Policies.
* Represent TDSO Lyneham on any relevant VLE Working / Steering Groups
* Act as first point of contact and offer support for Moodle users within SAAE.
* Research emerging technologies related to the virtual learning environment.
* Carry out miscellaneous administration functions including the completion of mandatory training, Continuous Personal Development, assisting with Quality Assurance audits, general office administration, responding to requests for information and other extraneous tasking as detailed by OC Training Design & Standards.

Person specification

Essential. The essential specific professional skills, knowledge or qualifications for the post are as follows:

* Recognised apprenticeship in Engineering or alternative period of training

Desirable. The desirable specific professional skills, knowledge or qualifications for the post are as follows:

* Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems such as Moodle.
* Level 3 Certificate / Diploma or above in Aeronautical Engineering.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. At interview you will required to deliver a short (10 mins) presentation on a technical subject of your choice and undertake a short technical examination to identify your areas of strengths within Aviation Engineering (both not graded).
