We are looking for an experienced leader to help us deliver our ambitious MFT strategy ‘Where Excellence Meets Compassion’ and achieve our mission to improve the health and quality of life of the people of Greater Manchester and beyond over the next five years.
As a Director of Strategy you will be a senior member of the Trust Strategy team aligned to one or more of our Clinical Groups, working closely with chief executives and the senior leadership teams. You will lead a team responsible for strategy development, the delivery of strategic projects and programmes, and leading service change processes on behalf of the organisation.
You will be responsible for a complex and varied portfolio, working with clinical, operational and executive colleagues from across MFT, as well as senior partners from across health and care, the VCSFE and commercial sectors.
This is a role that requires exceptional skills in leadership, planning, analysis and delivery. You will have the ability to build credibility quickly, make sense of complex strategic issues and work with people to find solutions to wicked issues.

The Director of Strategy is responsible for leading the development, delivery, and ongoing review of the MFT strategy. This includes overseeing major strategic programmes and projects, managing service change processes, and ensuring that all strategic developments across MFT align with the Trust’s overall objectives. The role involves working closely with Clinical Group Chief Executives to develop aligned plans, leading external engagement with commissioners and regulators, and representing MFT at local, regional, and national meetings.
Additionally, the Director of Strategy is tasked with developing and maintaining partnerships with key organisations, supporting commercial and investment activities, and ensuring robust planning and business processes. The role also includes coaching senior management on strategy and planning, preparing reports for leadership, managing human resources within the strategy team, and ensuring compliance with NHS standards and policies. The Director is expected to foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and effective communication throughout the Trust.
