Overview
Blackpool Sexual Health Services is looking for a new consultant in GUM and HIV to join their established team of Medics, Nurses and other health care professionals. This full‑time post is hosted by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and operates clinics across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Professional Requirements
The successful post holder must hold full and specialist registration with a licence to practice with the General Medical Council. RCP approval has been sought for this post.
Service Offerings
* Sexual Health Screening and free treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections including PrEP and PEPSE
* Full range of contraception
* HIV treatment and care appointments including inpatient care
* Psychosexual counselling services
* Young people’s services
* Vasectomy (Blackpool only)
* Cervical cytology (Blackpool; Lancaster, Preston and Accrington only)
Clinical Responsibilities
* Support the head of department, head of service and senior medical/nursing staff in the ongoing clinical leadership of the service.
* Undertake expert clinical practice in sexual health and HIV.
* Provide contraceptive services and other specialist clinical services as required.
* Support non‑medical staff within the service.
* Provide clinical advice and support to primary, secondary and tertiary care services.
* Assess and counsel patients with unplanned pregnancy and refer to appropriate agencies, including termination of pregnancy services.
* Deliver medical advice to clinical staff as needed.
* Support the development of an integrated sexual health service.
* Maintain clinical skills and professional accreditation.
* Participate in appraisal, revalidation and continuous professional development.
* Maintain accurate, legible records and use IT appropriately.
* Provide on‑call advice across Lancashire and South Cumbria for HIV medicine, general sexual health and specialised needlestick advice.
* Utilise provided secretarial support, office space and IT facilities.
* Manage STI cases and provide contraception as required.
Managerial Responsibilities
* Collaborate with Head of Department, Head of Service and senior management on service improvement and modernization.
* Assist with professional and managerial support for clinicians within the sexual health service.
* Lead day‑to‑day clinical management of the service.
* Contribute to strategic development and policy implementation.
* Represent the service on sexual health groups and other strategic committees.
* Ensure maintenance of professional and service standards in line with professional bodies.
Teaching and Training
Blackpool Teaching Hospital hosts undergraduate and postgraduate teaching for the University of Liverpool, UCLAN, Lancaster University and other institutions. The successful candidate will participate in undergraduate teaching and supervise postgraduate trainees, including foundations, core and specialist trainees, within the Trust’s teaching programmes.
Clinical Audit and Research
Appointee will conduct ongoing clinical audit and participate in regional and national audits. The Trust encourages evidence‑based care; therefore the consultant is expected to contribute to research studies, including NIHR portfolio studies, and support academic work with Lancaster University and other institutions.
Contractual and Professional Commitments
* Continued responsibility for patient care and service operation.
* Annual appraisal and revalidation in accordance with GMC regulations.
* Maintain CME/CPD and utilise Trust study leave policy.
* Participate in leadership development programmes and new consultant induction.
Employment
The post holder will be employed by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which will issue the Contract of Employment.
