Role Responsibility

Term Time Only 38 Weeks

When submitting your application, please be clear about for which school vacancy you would like to be considered.

TheRoad Crossing Patrol will be working hours dependent on the school site (see below) for 38 weeks per year.

The successful applicant will be paid within Kent Scheme Grade KSA, currently pro-rata £12.71/hour for the hours worked; £24,513 for full-time equivalent appointment; e.g. for a 7.50hr/week contract, annual salary approx. £4,155/year.

As you will be working a short-split shift throughout the day, it is recommended that you should be able to travel to the site in a timely manner.

3.75 hours per week:

Hunton Primary (Mon-Fri afternoons only)

7.50 hours per week:

Sandwich Junior School, Sandwich (Mon-Fri morning/afternoon)

The Anthony Roper Primary School, Eynsford (Mon-Fri morning/afternoon)

Leeds and Broomfield Primary School (Mon-Fri morning/afternoon)

Tunstall Primary School (Mon-Fri morning/afternoon)

Manor Community Primary, Northfleet (Mon-Fri morning/afternoon)

Roseacre Juniors and Thurnham Infants, Bearsted (Mon-Fri morning/afternoon)

Kent County Council School Crossing Patrol Service currently has a large team of dedicated community-minded individuals carrying out the important role of ensuring the safety of children on the way to and from school.

We are keen to hear from members of the community who can demonstrate traffic awareness, a sense of responsibility and are keen to show dedication and commitment in carrying out a very important job to make the roads of Kent safer for children. Most roles would be suitable for appropriate job share arrangements e.g., mornings/afternoons.

A uniform is provided to protect you against the elements. Some basic IT skills and personal email address are required.

Job Purpose:

To ensure the safe passage of school children and other pedestrians who are accompanying them at specific sites, in accordance with the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1981.

Role Responsibilities:

Safety: To operate the school crossing patrol point in a safe manner, identifying hazards and the risks they present to children, carers, and drivers, maintaining an awareness of traffic movement and speed to stop vehicles safely when required and using control measures to ensure safety of all road users.

Customers: To maintain appropriate relationships with children, to control the movement of groups of children at the crossing point, ensuring their personal safety.

Reliability: Maintain excellent standard of timekeeping to ensure that the crossing point is always covered at the required times.

Information: Report incidents occurring whilst on duty to the Safer Active Journeys Team. Maintain accurate records of working time and absences.

All positions are required to be filled as soon as possible.

KCC and all SCP Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young persons.
