The role
Biodiversity Officer Permanent Grade D - £45,091 – £53,460 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Equal Pay Programme Working 36.5 hours per week Biodiversity Officer – Shaping Birmingham’s Nature City This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in establishing Birmingham as one of the UK's foremost Nature Cities. As the UK's first accredited Nature City, Birmingham is delivering its ambitious City of Nature 25-Year Plan , placing nature recovery, biodiversity enhancement and environmental resilience at the heart of the city's future. Created to support the city's Nature City designation, deliver the City of Nature Plan and implement new Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) responsibilities, this role sits at the forefront of urban nature recovery. The post will lead on the designation of sites as Biodiversity Net Gain receptor sites, help establish Birmingham as a registered provider of BNG credits, and secure investment in the city's natural environment. In addition, you will be responsible for the management of the Council's Conservation and Woodland Management Team, overseeing the delivery of practical habitat creation, woodland management and biodiversity improvement projects across Birmingham's parks, green spaces and nature reserves. The Role You will lead Birmingham's approach to biodiversity enhancement and nature recovery by: • identifying, developing and delivering Biodiversity Net Gain receptor sites across the city • establishing and managing the Council's role as a registered provider of Biodiversity Net Gain credits • embedding biodiversity, nature recovery and ecological enhancement within planning, development and land management processes • leading and developing the Conservation and Woodland Management Team to deliver habitat creation, woodland management and biodiversity projects across parks and green spaces • securing investment, developing partnerships and driving innovation in urban nature recovery • supporting the delivery of Birmingham's City of Nature 25-Year Plan and wider biodiversity objectives This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic leadership with practical delivery, helping to shape the future of Birmingham's natural environment and creating lasting benefits for wildlife, habitats and communities across the city. About You You will hold a relevant qualification or substantive experience in a relevant discipline as well as demonstrating: experience in ecology, biodiversity, or environmental planning a proactive, innovative approach strong partnership and delivery skills a passion for nature recovery in cities A full UK driving licence is also essential.
