We are now recruiting for an Automation Maintenance Technician (Pool) at our Plymouth Mail Centre, Plymstock, PL9 7XX site.
Royal Mail is engaged in a significant technological transformation, transitioning to a predominantly mechanised parcel sortation process. Salary: £51,051 per annum, plus night shift allowance. Benefits include 22.5 days annual leave plus bank holidays, a defined contribution pension scheme, and weekend shift allowances (£51 per Saturday, £102 per Sunday).
You may also be eligible for a welcome bonus of £1,500 (subject to terms and conditions, paid in installments).
The successful candidate will work on a shift rotation system at the Plymouth Mail Centre, with some voluntary flexibility to meet operational needs, including occasional overtime and shift pattern adjustments.
Shift hours are 40 hours per week, covering Earliest: 06:45 – 15:15, Late: 14:45 – 23:15, and Night: 22:45 – 07:15, with potential future adjustments to meet operational requirements.
This is a Pool position requiring flexibility to cover for other technicians during leave or sickness. Outside these periods, the standard shift is typically from 07:00 to 15:30, Monday to Friday. You will initially start on the early shift and may be scheduled for other shifts to gain broader experience.
The Role
You will ensure the availability and performance of automation assets through effective maintenance. Key responsibilities include:
* Performing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks
* Engaging in continuous improvement activities
* Supporting the Engineering Manager, Maintenance Team Leader, and Engineers, including reporting and fault logging
* Diagnosing root causes of automation failures and prioritising corrective actions
* Monitoring equipment performance and collaborating with operational teams to enhance outputs
* Leading and participating in continuous improvement projects from conception to implementation
* Working independently and as part of a team to achieve shared goals
About You
You should be a qualified multi-skilled engineer with electrical and mechanical expertise (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent). You will have knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, experience maintaining automation equipment, and excellent communication skills. A full UK driving licence is required as travel to other sites may be necessary.
