 
        
        The Assistant Site Caretaker plays a key role in supporting the Site Manager to maintain a safe, clean, and well-functioning school environment. This position involves a wide range of responsibilities including overseeing cleaning standards, carrying out minor repairs, ensuring security and safety procedures are followed, and responding effectively to emergencies. The postholder will also help safeguard the wellbeing of our pupils by adhering to all safeguarding policies and statutory requirements.

Main Purpose
To work alongside the Site Manager in providing an effective caretaking service, monitoring cleaning staff, and inspecting and recording standards of cleaning. The postholder is expected to uphold the safeguarding and welfare of pupils at all times in line with school policies and statutory requirements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Caretaking and Maintenance
 * Maintain building cleaning standards in accordance with the ESCC School Cleaning specification.
 * Carry out minor repairs, maintenance, and decoration under the direction of the Site Manager.
 * Operate heating and hot water supply plant following school instructions and carry out frost precaution procedures as requested.
 * Maintain the swimming pool and take out of use any faulty caretaking or cleaning equipment, reporting the need for repair.
 * Monitor fuel levels and ensure timely reporting.
Security and Safety
 * Perform routine and emergency opening and closing of school premises and grounds as required.
 * Assist in enabling access during snow, flooding, or other emergency situations.
 * Carry out security procedures for buildings and grounds following school policies.
 * Report emergencies such as fire, flood, break-in, vandalism, or accidents to the Site Manager/Executive Business Manager.
 * Manage alarm systems and liaise with relevant authorities and contractors as necessary.
Cleaning and Grounds
 * Carry out cleaning in specified areas, including emergency cleaning after accidents, sickness, or vandalism.
 * Clean external hard surfaces three times per week and maintain gullies and drains at surface level.
 * Replenish consumables such as soap, towels, and toilet paper throughout the school.
 * Replace light sources and clean accessible light fittings where necessary.
Support and Supervision
 * Accept deliveries and convey materials to appropriate storage areas.
 * Move furniture and equipment as required.
 * Supervise cleaning staff, inspect their work, and keep accurate records of cleaning and caretaking standards.
Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities
 * Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, ensuring all safeguarding policies are followed and concerns are reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
 * Comply with the school’s safeguarding procedures and relevant statutory guidance (KCSIE).
 * Ensure all interactions with pupils adhere to safeguarding and behaviour policies.
 * Attend safeguarding training and keep updated on statutory safeguarding responsibilities.
Other Duties
 * Remove all internally collected refuse and convey to nominated collection points.
 * Undertake floor treatment work during school closure periods, including polishing, sealing, and carpet shampooing, in consultation with the Area Supervisor/Site Manager.
 * Carry out other duties as reasonably required by the Site Manager or Executive Business Manager.
