Role Responsibilities
Working alongside the Regional Security, Health and Safety (SHS) Manager, this role entails managing a broad scope of EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) responsibilities, including collaboration with other EHS Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), local SHS coordinators, and other essential support functions. This position requires innovative thinking and a comprehensive remit to assess, develop, and implement EHS standards for employees in the United Kingdom and Ireland, along with strong process improvement skills. This is a full-time, permanent position based out of our Belfast or Newry Office.
Responsibilities include:
1. Understanding EHS requirements and standards related to occupational health and safety, such as laws, regulations, and best practices.
2. Collaborating with other EHS SMEs to enhance EHS standards and develop long-term goals and metrics to drive continuous improvement. Being a key contributor to team strategy.
3. Coordinating and managing EHS projects aimed at increasing awareness and ensuring compliance (e.g., occupational risk assessments, audits, EHS campaigns).
4. Partnering with local SHS coordinators and internal stakeholders to ensure policies and programs are effectively communicated, implemented, and executed among employees and contractors.
5. Delivering training and promoting health and safety awareness at both country and site levels, including H&S training, ergonomics, first aid, fire prevention, etc.
6. Managing injury/illness prevention, investigating occupational incidents, preparing post-accident documentation, and identifying root causes and trends.
7. Reporting and monitoring performance metrics.
Experience required:
1. Must possess the necessary qualifications to work as an EHS professional in the UK/Ireland.
2. At least 3 years of experience in health and safety management, with experience in coordinating dispersed teams. Experience in environmental management is beneficial but not required.
3. In-depth understanding of relevant EHS legislation and standards.
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
5. Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
7. Ability to manage multiple sites remotely.
8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
9. Ability to respond accurately and effectively in stressful situations.
