To assist the SENDCo in managing the provision for pupils identified as having Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND); including promoting high quality teaching and learning, leading on interventions and provision, and ensuring effective use of resources across the school.
To contribute to the management and support of pupils during learning activities. Establish and maintain relationships with individual pupils and groups. Review and develop your own professional practice. Support with pupils’ therapeutic, pastoral and personal care needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support for SENDCo
* Support the SENDCo in managing the implementation of an inclusive curriculum within the context of the school’s aims and policies.
* Assist the SENDCo in leading the provision for SEND within the school.
* Under the direction of the SENDCo, lead on the management and delivery of interventions and maintain records on progress.
* Support the SENDCo on the management of the school provision map.
* Liaise between SENDCo, teaching staff and teaching assistants
* Manage appropriate resources for SEND and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively and safely.
* Support the SENDCo in the procurement of resources for SEND.
* Support with parental engagement, co-production and communication.
* Support the implementation and management of EHCPs, SSPPs and Learning plans by monitoring the provision for pupils with SEND and advising teachers on provision.
* Monitor the use of Birmingham Toolkits and Learning plans to ensure they are used effectively and are completed within the review cycle period.
* Develop curriculum resources to ensure that pupils identified as having SEND have the required levels of support.
* Support the SENDCo by collating and preparing information for referrals and EHCP/SSPPs.
* Support the SENDCo by leading on review meetings where appropriate
* Support the SENCO by working with and meeting other professionals as needed.
Support for the Quality of Education
* Support teachers with effective SEND provision and practice within their classrooms and monitor the impact.
* Select and prepare resources necessary to implement learning activities, taking account of pupils’ interests and language and cultural backgrounds
* Manage, deliver and track effective interventions for pupils across the school.
* Use ICT effectively to support learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use
* Advise on appropriate deployment and use of specialist aid/resources/equipment
* Support / Advise / train / mentor teaching assistants on implementing SEND provisions for pupils.
Support for Pupils
* Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils’ learning
* Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
* Support staff in the development of Learning plans, One Page Profiles and provision.
* Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom
* Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
* Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities
* Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance
* Help to provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement
* Help to supervise pupils identified with SEMH or pastoral needs.
Support for the School
* Comply with and assist with the implementation of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting concerns to an appropriate person
* Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
* Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
* Recognise own strengths and areas of specialist expertise and use these to lead, advise and support others
* Deliver out of school learning activities within guidelines established by the school
* Contribute to the identification and execution of appropriate out of school learning activities which consolidate and extend work carried out in class
* Any other duties as may be reasonably required by the school.
* Provide support in terms of supervision of children as required for example with school enrichment activities, off-site visits and lunch times.
* Provide emergency supervision cover in the case of unplanned absence.
