Job Overview

Millfield School is looking for a practical, reliable, and enthusiastic Design Technology Technician to support the work of our thriving Design Technology Department.

This is a hands-on role where you will help prepare and maintain materials, tools, and machinery for practical lessons, support staff and students during workshop activities, and ensure our teaching spaces are safe, well-organised, and ready for learning. You’ll also assist with displays, extra-curricular projects, and the general day-to-day running of the department. Full training will be provided, including Health & Safety procedures and equipment use.

We are looking for someone who is organised, approachable, and keen to contribute to a busy, creative environment. You might have a background in design, engineering, or working with tools and machinery—or simply a strong interest in helping young people learn practical skills. Above all, you'll be someone who enjoys working as part of a team, takes pride in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, and is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for students.

The hours of work are 8.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday and 8.30am - 12.30pm on Saturday during term time and 8.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday for 4 weeks during non-term time.

The role offers an actual salary of £21,290.87 per annum (inclusive of statutory holiday pay) based on an FTE of £27,096, plus an array of staff benefits including freshly prepared lunches for only £10 per month, access to school facilities, and discounts/cashback on high street shops and restaurants through the school’s Employee Assistance Programme.

About Us

Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1,300 students at the senior school (year 9 to U6), with a 3:1 ratio of boarding to day. Although essentially a rural British school, 20 per cent of Millfield students are international and come from more than 70 countries.

Set in over 100 acres of grounds, Millfield’s size brings great opportunity, and the facilities are unmatched in the UK: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, golf courses, indoor centres for tennis, golf and cricket and an equestrian centre; concert hall, recording studio, theatre, art gallery, hi-tech Science block and outstanding teaching facilities; and high-quality boarding accommodation.

Our aim is to discover brilliance in every child and to immerse them in academic, creative and sporting opportunities to develop this brilliance. We offer an exceptionally wide range of courses and provide multiple pathways through the school to meet the needs of the individual child.

Millfield offers excellent facilities, professional development opportunities, and a strong community ethos that values both academic and personal growth.

To apply, please click the apply button where you'll be able to complete our online application form.

Please note that applications will be considered on receipt, and as a result the vacancy may close early should an appointment be made. As such we would recommend submitting your application as soon as possible.

Millfield School is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all. We are a community that celebrates diversity, supporting our pupils and employees to be brilliant as individuals.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Specific safeguarding responsibilities for this position are outlined in the job description. Offers of employment are subject to satisfactory safeguarding checks including, but not limited to, Enhanced DBS clearance. All positions within the school are exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Be kind, be individual, be brilliant. Millfield School, where being an individual is recognised as the key to brilliance. #J-18808-Ljbffr
