Job overview

Practice Development Lead and will have responsibility for professional development of all staff within Child health. The post holder will be required to provide formal classroom and one to one educational support for nursing teams. The primary function of the role is to provide clinical leadership and education within Child health to ensure the delivery of efficient, effective, co-ordinated and responsive high-quality care to patients. The post holder will also be responsible for maintaining their own clinical skills and competence by attendance at training/conferences and working in clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

·To work alongside Team Managers and Team Leaders to provide clinical leadership, education and professional development to the Paediatric nursing team.

·To be responsible for the educational and professional mentorship required, maintaining and improving standards, within Child health.

·To ensure that the nursing teams are professionally developed and supported to provide a high-quality nursing service to its patients.

·Maintain own clinical skills and knowledge in line NMC guidance.

·To ensure that Trust policies, procedures, standards, codes of practice and protocols are adhered to, by self and any others you are developing/teaching.

·Develop training packages for staff, as identified at PDR and skills analysis within Child Health.

·Assisting the Matron in the implementation and maintenance of operational and organisational objectives.

·Developing the paediatric team, enabling them through on-going training, to grow and meet the evolving needs of the service, ensuring efficient and effective use of all training resources.

·Taking responsibility for the training and development of all nursing staff across the Directorate

·Ensuring that all registered nurses employed within acute paediatric areas are fully equipped in terms of knowledge & skills, to care for the seriously ill and deteriorating child / neonate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. To maintain clinical credibility by providing patient care in a teaching/supportive role.
2. Challenge professional and organisational boundaries to ensure that the role is focused on meeting the needs of patient users, thus promoting continuity of high-quality health care.

Act as a role model to team members so that patients receive the most effective care possible.

3. Contribute to the development of policy and services to reflect the needs within Child health.
4. To be aware of the Care Quality Commission standards and actively promote these.
5. Maintain clinical and professional knowledge by identifying training needs through appraisals.
6. Attend training and updates in accordance with NMC recommendations, individual and organisational requirements.
7. Develop the team’s understanding of Clinical Governance and the context of Clinical Governance in the wider organisation.
8. Contribute to the development of education and training within the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

9. RN child qulification
10. Post graduate qualification eg HDU
11. Mentorship

Desirable criteria

12. 2 years experiance at Band 6 level
13. Teaching qualification
14. Leadership experience

Experience

Essential criteria

15. Demonstrate ability as expert role model
16. Experience as a senior nurse in an acute hospital setting
17. HDU experience

Desirable criteria

18. Working well across different MDT
19. Previous experience within a training an development role

Skills

Essential criteria

20. Demonstrate good communication, team and interpersonal skills.
21. Demonstrate ability as expert role model.
22. Demonstrate good organisational skills
23. Proven record of change management

Desirable criteria

24. Evidence of undertaken / involvement in research/audit

Knowledge

Essential criteria

25. Evidence of up to date underpinning theoretical knowledge
26. Demonstrate specialist knowledge of current political & ethical issues

27. Demonstrate knowledge of wider organisational issues.
