Senior Lecturer in Medical Education (Lead for Clinical Skills)
An enthusiastic and creative team of medical educators are developing a new School of Medicine within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. The Lead for Clinical Skills will join to lead and coordinate the four-year longitudinal theme of Clinical Skills, including practical procedures, for the University of Surrey Medical Programme.
The programme aims to produce a new type of doctor — excellent and holistic clinical leaders who can drive change, delivering integrated and technologically advanced healthcare for their patients and communities. The programme emphasises digital and communication health technology and a ‘One Health’ ethos that promotes a whole-society approach to health and interprofessional training.
Responsibilities
* The post holder will work alongside the Dean and Course Director to lead and coordinate the longitudinal clinical skills theme for the medical programme, ensuring students are trained to the highest standards in all domains of clinical skills.
* Support the Director of Assessment in the design and delivery of the MLA CPSA and MLA Practical Skills and Procedures portfolio.
* Take the lead in clinical skills and communication skills teaching, as well as teaching and learning of practical procedures.
* Deliver high-quality large and small group teaching, including case-based learning, team-based learning, special study units, and clinical and communication skills sessions.
* Contribute to the admissions process, standard setting, writing knowledge test questions and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), and support OSCE examining.
Requirements / About you
* Full GMC registration and a higher professional qualification (usually a doctoral degree or equivalent).
* Experience delivering high-quality teaching with a significant academic publication record and evidence of scholarly contributions to conferences, professional meetings, and societies.
* Excellent communication and leadership abilities; able to build effective working relationships at all levels and influence, persuade, and negotiate effectively.
* A forward-looking, can-do attitude with the ambition to drive innovation in medical education, with particular expertise in clinical skills.
* You may undertake this role as a joint appointment with existing clinical duties; current NHS salary may apply.
