Become a Mirus Trustee

We're currently recruiting for new trustees to join our board and would love to speak to anyone who might be interested.

We're looking for someone who has knowledge of the Health & Social Care sector and someone who has experience in a legal field (general law, employment law or commercial law)

Even through we're looking for someone with the above expertise, we're interested in talking to anyone who's interested in becoming a trustee

About Mirus

With 40 years' experience as a non-profit support provider in Wales, we promote the rights of disabled people and their families, showing what is possible by removing barriers and challenging perceptions in society.

Our support services are shaped by the people who use them – we listen to and value each person's unique voice and experiences, creating an environment where everyone feels heard and understood.

We work with others in the community to build networks that encourage people to explore opportunities, discover new interests, develop relationships and enhance their independence.

We are guided by our strong values, and our work has a lasting and positive impact on people's lives.

About our existing trustee team

Our Board of Trustees is responsible for our Governance as a charity. Our board sets the strategic direction that enables us to achieve our vision, mission and values. everything we do is focused on enabling the people we support to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives. We also want to create a work environment where people can have a fulfilling and rewarding career.

We
already have trustees from a variety of backgrounds and we're keen to welcome people who have experience and skills within Finance, IT & Digital, Business Development, Public Affairs, and Learning and Development, especially within the social care sector.

We believe a diverse board reflects the diverse community we serve. We welcome input from people with personal experience of diverse disabilities, a family member with a disability, or personal experience within the disability community or care sector.

We want to actively build a diverse board so we can make sure that the people supported by us continue to live their best possible lives and the people who work with us truly love coming to work.

Most importantly, we are looking for people who share our values, are creative and imaginative, and want to play a key role in developing our future.

Key Duties as a Trustee

Our Trustees work with the senior leadership team to help us set and achieve our strategic plans Trustees also help ensuring proper governance of the organisation.

Essentially the role of a trustee is to help us achieve our vision, mission and values.

Full responsibilities associated with the role of a trustee can be reviewed in the attached role description.

Please note that Trustee roles are entirely voluntary.

You'll be required to make a commitment of time to:

* Attend four board meetings each year.
* Attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM) once a year.
* Consider joining one of our three committees that meet four times a year (optional)
* Participate in Board Development & Away Days
* Engage directly with both the staff and people we support, either by attending
Mirus
events or visiting people in their homes. We value your time and it's up to you how involved you would like to be.

Some of the legal duties and responsibilities that come with being a Trustee include:

* Ensuring that we comply with the law and any other relevant legislation or regulatory requirements.
* Promoting our vision, mission and values.
* Lead the implementation of our strategic direction.
* Declaring any conflict of interest.

As a Trustee, you'll receive:

* Trustee & governance training.
* Travel and out-of-pocket expenses.
* Opportunities to make strategic decisions, develop new skills, and engage with professionals within the health and social care sector.
