Who can apply?
Applicants must be completing a placement as part of a degree course at a UK University, either through Year in Industry/Industrial Placement or Gap Year. Department Overview
Global Site and Study Operations (GSSO) is a global group that plays a key role in the conduct of clinical trials. Three main areas of accountability:
* Global Study Management – seamless end-to-end global operational leadership and execution of studies.
* Country Operations – delivery at the country level, and ensuring regulatory and contractual documentation with investigative sites, including negotiating site budgets and contracts.
* Site Operations – clinical trial execution at investigative sites.
GSSO collaborates with other clinical and clinical operations teams to provide operational and technical expertise for the design and execution of clinical trials.
Responsibilities and opportunities
During the placement, you will develop an in-depth understanding of the key elements of the clinical study lifecycle and gain hands-on experience in study execution across multiple therapeutic areas. You will support a study team and develop a technical grasp of key clinical trial deliverables on one or more interventional trials, with the possibility to work across multiple Therapeutic Areas. Assignments may include one or more of the following areas:
* Global Study Management – working with an experienced Global Study Manager and/or Clinical Study Team Associate
* Start-Up Project Management – site activation
* Clinical Trial Associate – supporting study team operations at country or regional level
* Clinical Operations Planning – technology, project planning, and resource management
* Country Operations – collaborating with Clinical Trial Associates and Site Activation Partners
* Site Operations – working with investigative sites throughout the study lifecycle
* Resource management – understanding staffing needs for projects
* Process support and continuous improvement – identifying lessons learned to improve future processes
Other opportunities and benefits
GSSO partners with other functions to provide insights into core clinical development areas such as Project Management, Clinical, Clinical Data Sciences, Regulatory, and Contracts and Legal. The placement may include access to training tools and regular educational sessions. Pfizer also supports STEM outreach activities, diversity initiatives, and employee resource groups.
Start date
Placements will start on 1 September 2026 and run for 12 months.
Person specification
Skills, Knowledge and Motivation: completing placement as part of a degree; on target for degree classification; self-motivated; able to work independently and in a team; strong verbal and written communication; detail oriented; solution-focused with problem solving; high IT literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
