Academia is seeking a Credit Controller / Accounts Assistant to join our dedicated and passionate Finance team. This is a full-time position providing maternity cover for a twelve-month period, with the potential to become a permanent role at the end of that period.

The role will be based at our headquarters in Hemel Hempstead. It will primarily involve working in a Credit Control team of 3 but will also support a wider Finance team of 11 on an as-needed basis. The finance team are mainly based in the UK.

This is a hybrid role, with up to 2 days a week working from home (subject to management discretion).

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a credit controller in a B2B environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic business environment, is analytical, and can resolve problems effectively. The successful candidate will liaise with internal teams and external customers to ensure timely payments and the smooth functioning of the finance team.

You will be responsible for:

* Managing customer accounts and undertaking general administrative duties within the credit control team.
* Ensuring customers have sufficient credit allocated and that monthly accounts are settled promptly.
* Interacting with customers, requiring excellent communication skills, diplomacy, and the ability to handle difficult situations.
* Monitoring debtor account balances and maintaining acceptable Debtor Sales Outstanding (DSO) metrics.
* Processing new account applications, conducting credit checks, and allocating credit limits.
* Reconciling accounts and posting cash daily.
* Sending reminder letters and statements weekly.
* Handling queries and resolving issues promptly.

As part of the wider finance team, you may assist with other finance tasks, including accounts payable, supporting senior managers, or ad-hoc duties.

* Strong numeracy skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* A strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple conflicting deadlines.
* Teamwork and individual work capabilities.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn finance systems like Epicor and Xero.
* Good problem-solving skills.
